Web Design & Development

My goals and methods: Simplicity. Ease of use. Best practices. Valid code. Accessible for people with sight or mobility disabilities. Presentable across different internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc...). Hand-crafted code. The end result should be clean and pleasing to the eye.

Here is my simple checklist for moving forward with a website.

1. Daydream about your site. What should it contain? Will it be a business card type of site? Will it be an informational resource? Will you be selling something? Do you have photos that you want to feature? Start by thinking about the content you want to include.

2. Find a web designer and developer. You´ve certainly come to the right place for that! We´ll start with a conversation of what you have in mind, and together we´ll come up with a plan.

3. Get a domain name (ie, www.dposorio.com). This is inexpensive and can be purchased from Network Solutions (keep your username and password safe). Aim for something short and sweet. If it´s for your organization, I would suggest registering for at least 5 years. If it´s for a shorter campaign, 1 year will probably suffice.

4. Find a web host. This is a company with computers that you will rent space and infrastructure from. When someone types in your domain, it is the web host´s computers that are reached. Two web hosts I have had good experiences with are: Drizzle Internet and WestHost. Someone should answer the phone when you call. If not, this is usually a bad sign. There will be various packages available. The "optimal" decision depends on your needs. I can help navigate through the morass, so that you don´t overspend or purchase something that doesn´t allow for future growth.
